Eleanor - Oceanside
I was born in January, 1963, shortly after Eleanor Roosevelt passed away. And yes, I am named for her. Sadly, my mother passed away before she could tell me her thoughts behind choosing my name, but as Oprah says, "what I know for sure" is that we, as women, are marching in the right direction.
While Helen Reddy was singing "I Am Woman" on the radio, girls of my generation were coming of age. I think our age group is torn; while most of my contemporaries have chosen a career, many of us are still dependent on husbands for survival.
Hillary's campaign was inspirational in that we came sooo close to shattering that glass ceiling once and for all! May we all live to see the day that a woman takes this nation's highest office! My daughter will know that indeed anything is possible, and I'm grateful that we have someone like Hillary to inspire US. Imagine that at one point in time, we couldn't even cast our vote.
I'm sure somewhere Mrs. Roosevelt is beaming with pride as her legacy lifts to the next level; let nothing stop us!
God bless all women in their pursuance of public office!
