Eleanor's Legacy

Naomi - Brooklyn

At the AARP convention in 2007, Hillary was the only candidate for the Democratic nomination who came to speak. There wasn't enough room in the theatre for all the people lined up to hear her; a dozen extra rooms were set up with closed circuit TVs to accommodate everyone. I lucked out, literally one of the last people they let in. Not everyone there was "sold" on Hillary yet-- people were chatting during the long wait; I proudly identified myself as a New Yorker, and a Hillary fan. When she said, "I am running for President of the United States," there was huge applause, and I got a chill up my spine.

A fair number of that audience had voted for FDR, and were Eleanor fans-- my own mother was, and would've loved Hillary. (She'd be 91; I'm a newly-minted "Aarpie" at 50.)

Progress may seem to take longer than we can bear, but it's not nothing!
