Rachelle - Brooklyn
I was an active part of Hillary Clinton's Campaign for President. I travelled to New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and of course, campaigned at her New York locales to get her to win the primaries there. I also talked to my friends at college and in women's group meetings that I attended about why it was so important to vote for her for this job. I was so excited about the prospect of having such an intelligent, dedicated woman being our President that I took every opportunity possible to make sure I did everything I could for her to win. It was exciting to travel to different places for her campaign and to talk with voters and other participants about the need to elect a progressive woman to the highest office in this country. Hillary was of course, my Senator for the last almost 9 years, and she did a fabulous job helping New York after the crisis of 9-11 by going to Bush and asking him for extra money to repair New York after that damage had been done. She was a wonderful champion for women and children throughout her whole life, and remained so once she became Senator of New York. In 2007, she was a big part of the fight to get the FDA to approve the use of Plan B over the counter for women over the age of 18, and now, the Court ruled that that had to be extended to women 17 years of age as well. Without Hillary's steadfast determine in Congress, many young women might be without the EC that they need in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies as they may potentially occur. She was a supporter of a number of key pieces of legislation for women, including the Compassionate Care for Servicewomen Act, the Paycheck Fairness Act, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act for Women, the Healthy Teens Act, and legislation that would provide enormous economic relief to women in a time of fiscal crisis. She has now moved on to help women in foreign countries, who will benefit from her keen insight, advocacy, and devotion to human rights causes. Women in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and South Africa can only dream of the rights and privileges that women in the United States have thanks to devoted leaders like Hillary Clinton. Now it's time for her to spread the wealth and humanity to women of other nations. Her candidacy was no doubt historic, and she will go down in the history books as being the only woman to ever garner 18 million votes and over 1900 delegates to the Democratic National Convention. She is truly an inspiration to women everywhere, especially to women who want to run for office like myself. Thanks to Hillary, I have decided to run for state-level office in the near future. Thank you Hillary, for all you have done to promote equality for women in the U.S. and abroad. I hope you decide to run again, and if so, I will travel to every state for you to make sure that you win every single primary and become the Democratic nominee.
